Long Lining with a Double Bridle

I have never been taught this training method. While I do have some knowledgeable resources to teach me hands on stuff but I would really like the theory behind this method please. What is the purpose (other than oh it teaches them to wear it better, yea but better how)? What kind of horse would you use this with or not? What do you have to watch out for? How should the converter be adjusted? Any special notes that should be included? Thank you.

For Sale

10 yr old dark bay stallion. The very last frozen semen foal by Trija’s Mr. Pepperlect. Out of the only full sister to WC NBN At Your Command. Pleasure Driving show record. Great prospect for the breeding shed. Brought home with the hopes of breeding him but he has been sitting because of owners other commitments. $8,000 obo

Donny

13 year old bay mare with a lot of chrome. By Nobility out of LCS Mona Lisa, by Tedwin Topic. Breeders dream come true. Snorty, big, and flashy. Had an accident years ago that requires a tiny bit of extra care, nothing more than average day to day care for any horse. Clean bill of health no reason for her not to be bred.  Never bred because of owners other commitments. $1,500 obo

Vicki

8 year old dark bay mare by Ultra’s Special Agent. Out of the only full sister to NBN At Your Command. Another breeders dream come true. Very classy, beautiful front end, great hind end. Going to throw some super show horses. Never bred because of owners other commitments. $1,500 obo

Penny

Owner is getting out of the business so they are priced very reasonably for quick sales. Prices do not reflect quality – they just need to be moved as quickly as possible. No reasonable offer refused.

super cute, good thinking, well bred 5 yr old mare looking for good home

this mare has had sporadic training, so she’s a little green still. But she’s super willing and is very safe and solid to work. She needs work on her transitions in the arena, but W/T/C’s both ways. She’s been mainly worked towards hunter pleasure…she’d be darling in this division. However, she’s done a little work on western as well and has a lovely jog to her. She enjoys trail rides. She’ll occasionally see something and look at it, but she’s very reasonable and gets more confident with every accomplishment on the trail. She’s never wild, not a bucker, rearer, nothing nasty ever. She’s by Tug Hill Whamunition and out of Complete Obsession, the dam of World Champion Extreme Obsession. She’s sound and sane and we’ve had kids and adults ride her, ama’s have taken her on a trail ride, and she’s nice to be around. At 5 yrs old, she’d be a stellar project for a decent kid, because she is that good of a thinker, or she’d be fun for an adult looking to finish her arena work and have a neat trail horse. She’s willing to do anything asked of her. Her owners don’t have the time or finances to put training into her, but will keep her as long as a home is needed. But they would love to see her being used and loved and she would enjoy it as well…she shouldn’t be wasted when someone could be enjoying her. Contact me for details…a good home is first and foremost…

Horse & Academy

Today I attended the first ever editorial board meeting for the new advice and all around fun magazine Horse & Academy. The board is all children ages 8-16. It is a bold move (even though I am 12 myself).

The idea of this Magazine is for parents to understand and learn all about not only academy but also saddle seat ridding in general. the link is as follows:

Learn to Ride and Drive in Style

A while ago, the UPHA, American Saddlebred Horse Association, and Hackney Horse Society launched a campaign on EquestrianLife.com to get more people interested in saddle seat riding and pleasure driving. In the program, called “Learn to Ride and Drive in Style,” Participating farms offer new students a free lesson so they can see what saddle seat is all about.

Morgans were notably absent from this program, but not anymore!

http://www.usefnetwork.com/news/7962/2012/1/10/amha_announces_participation_in_uph.aspx

I hope a lot of Morgan farms with lesson programs will participate in this. Opening the barn doors to beginners (or curious riders from other sports) is exactly the kind of positive PR saddle seat needs.

2012 AMHA Convention

I’ve been squirreling away a few extra dollars for the past few months in hopes of going to the convention this year. I’ll be perfectly honest: I really just want to go somewhere warm in February, and this is a great excuse to do so.

I attended part of the convention in 2010 and found the seminars really worthwhile. They’re still working out the Orlando seminar schedule, and unfortunately it looks like they won’t have different options like they have in the past, but it still looks like a variety of interesting topics. Plenty of downtime to visit Disney, if that’s your thing, or sit by the pool if it isn’t.

Anyone else planning to go? The current schedule is here: http://www.morganhorse.com/association/annual_convention/annual_schedule/
