Morgan western shoeing

I am new to the morgan world and have read the usef rules on shoeing,  but I would still like alittle help.  I am center kentucky and would like to find a good farrier that shoes morgans. arabs, saddlebreds.  If anyone knows of good farriers in central ky please let me know.  Also anyone in this area that shows western type morgans.

Thank You

Show Results

So… the Show Results page has not been working for some time. Sorry :( The good news is I’ve got it working again! I’ve kept links to past year’s results and am starting on 2012 show results.

I only have 1 show posted so far, UPHA Chapter 14, but the class sizes look bigger than I remember seeing in the past. There were also only a handful of classes canceled due to lack of entries. Is it just my imagination, or are entries on the rise?

New Camera

So a few days ago I bought a new DSLR camera. I have a few personal clients for whom I do website development. Many of these clients are Morgan Horse sites and they’re always saying to me “we need new pictures for the site”. I finally thought to myself, maybe I should pick up a camera and take matters into my own hands. So a few days ago I found a used camera at the local camera store and contacted a few Morgan owners in the area to see if they’d let me do some test photo shoots while they worked their horses. Today was test photo shoot #1 and I couldn’t help but share one of my favorites here with you. I won’t share the trainer/owner since this wasn’t intended to be shared with the public and we didn’t even take his tail down. But I think the movement framed by the white fence rails and the semi-ominous sky made for a dang cool shot, even if I do say so myself :) (click the image for a larger version)

Tail Set

Hello!

I have a tail set with belly band/bustle and cup for the tail and a chest piece. The tail set was used by my good friend who showed Walking Horses. It looks like it was rarely if ever used, though I do need to give it a good cleaning.

Disclaimer: Forgive me if I am using incorrect terminology. I’ve been googling this thing like it’s going out of style because I’m not familiar at all with these types of contraptions ;) .

It does have a nice quality leather and looks to be a nice set.

Here it is:

If you’re interested, let me know and we can work out a price!I can send more pictures and answer any questions to the best of my ability!

Cheers!

TMH Trainer Forum

The latest TMH is great.  Once again, a wide variety of interesting articles.   I really enjoyed the Trainer Forum on preparing the young horse and mounting him for the first time.   However, I was surprised and disappointed that there was no discussion about introducing the young horse to harness and cart.   I see that Stan Bodnar noted that gap as well.    It may be that the article length mandated concentrating on just the introduction and the saddling, but I would very much like to see the same trainers discuss how they prepare and hook their youngsters.

Half-Morgan Competition

Earlier this month AMHA announced a Half-Morgan competition program. This program will be open to a number of disciplines including dressage, endurance and competitive trail, open competition, carriage/CDE, and eventing. I know the Arab world has had half-Arab programs for some time. More information on the Morgan program can be found on both USEF’s and AHMA’s websites; here and here.

What do you think about this program? What is the purpose behind it? Do you think there will be many people who participate in it?

Black Tie Stables

For those who have not heard, Black Tie Stables run by Richard Wright suffered a huge tragedy on Wednesday evening when the barn went up in flames. So far, at least 16 equine souls have been lost. There are still horses that are unaccounted for.  Here is the most recent article as of this afternoon:

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/04/12/at-least-16-horses-dead-after-mchenry-county-stable-fire/

This is every horse owner’s worst nightmare. If you are willing to donate, the Arabian Horsemens Distress Fund is taking donations.  Here is the link if you would like to make a donation:

USEF Show Recognition and Rating

Hey all, guess who’s back. :) I’m finished with treatment and cleared to get back to as normal a life as I can manage, which isn’t much at the moment. I have a few lingering side effects from the chemo, but am meeting with my boss next week to discuss my options for coming back to work. So, progress is being made. I don’t know how regularly I’ll monitor the site quite yet. My first order of business is to get the 2012 calendar posted and track down any show results I’ve missed from last fall and this spring (better late than never).

Anyway, I was just checking out what shows might be in my area that I could poke around at for some fun this spring. I looked at the Prize List for Midwest Charity and noticed a note saying “Midwest Charity is also a USEF recognized Morgan show, rated, “A”. The Morgan breed will carry USEF recognition next year for the 2013 show but will also have no rating.” So they’re rated “A” this year but won’t have that next year? What goes into a show having an “A” rating? Costs? Paperwork? Why would they drop this? From an exhibitor’s perspective, does the lack of an “A” rating make the show any less appealing?

I could probably find the answers to my questions with a little help from google, but I’m feeling lazy so I’ll just lob it out for you folks to answer for me.
