Show Ring Nerves…

Does anyone know of any books, horse related or not, that would help riders/drivers with show ring nerves? I know alot of athletes have had luck with a book or a method and I just wondered if any of them were known to be particularly good.

in need of…

Does anyone have or know of someone that has a used work harness? LaSalle would be great, but not required. Older is fine as long as it’s safe and sound. It’s simply for a client of our’s to have at home to drive her fun gelding around with. Please let me know if you have or know of one,

maybe a solution??

hello all,

Many of us have concerned ourselves with the survival of some of our smaller shows as well as our regionals and the also the market for a Morgan that might not be competitive at OKC, but could do just fine on a local or even regional level.

As a solution, we were wondering if some qualifying changes could be helpful. If we contstructed our Grand National qualifying system differently we could maybe support more shows and some more local shows. If we required a horse/rider to qualify (same guidelines as far as which ribbons qualify you) by getting a qualifying ribbon (I think it’s 1-8th place) in two (instead of the current one) classes at regional shows (as opposed to regional OR non-regional shows as it is now) then we’d at least have horses that go to either 2 regionals, or they show back in their championship at the one they go to. However, in order to support the smaller shows, we could require that a horse show in and complete a class (or 2…not sure ) at a non-regional show in order to qualify for the regional. SO…in order for a horse to go to OKC and become a world champion, they’d have to have been to 2 shows…one to qualify for regionals and a regional to qualify for OKC.  How would everyone feel about this idea?? I’m mostly curious because it came up on another list and we wondered how people would feel. Personally, I have no issue with it. What are everyone else’s thoughts??

horse hauling available

Hi all,

Gerry Rushton is trying to organize a trip from California back east and then back to Ca. At this time he’ll have to go to Mn. for sure and will likely have to go thru Tn on the way back so he’s pretty much doing a big circle:) If anyone has any horses they need moved in the near future, please e-mail me. He’d be looking at leaving Ca. around next Monday (a week from yesterday).

feel free to e-mail me at emgjoker@aol.com

thanks,

Kely McFaul

Kelly McFaul, secretary to many Morgan shows including one of Oklahoma’s secretaries, was just named as one of the top ten show secretaries in the country by USEF! She is the only secretary that does Morgan shows that was honored. For those that know Kelly, this is no surprise;) For those that don’t, she is not only incredibly efficient, but she is an absolute pleasure to deal with when in the office! Unfortunately for me, we don’t go to as many of Kelly’s shows as I’d like, but, a great show secretary can make a trainer’s job ALOT nicer and Kelly does that. SO…if you are fortunate enough to go to one of her shows, you might just congratulate her and count yourself lucky that she’s in the office!!:)

important info for OKC jr riders

for those that will be in 9th and 10th grades in the fall of 2009 and are planning to shw at the Grand National this year, you might want to inquire with your school about your PSAT schedule. Most schools have the kids take them in these years and this year the national scheduled date is the Wednesday of the GN. We are currently working on finding a school in OKC that is giving the tests and organizing for our rider to take them there. They don’t care where you take them, but that is the only date that they will be administered for the year. It appears that it is from 8:00 AM to noon that they’ll be testing. I’ll keep you all updated if I get anything organized.

fancy stud colt…

Hey there,
I recently went to a friend’s house and ran across a nice colt that is quite inexpensive and looks like he’ll be quite impressive. He’s by MLF Sharper Image (Sire of RWC DeerCreek Sharp Dressed Man and RWC State Of Grace) and out of a full sister to DeerCreek Tiffany who won at Oklahoma in harness and in hand as a 2 year old. tiffany’s career was cut short by an accident, but we have no doubt that those would not have been her last World titles, had she lived. The dam of this colt, DeerCreek Tiara was retained to breed as soon as Tiffany died, therefore she never showed, but she was trained and was very comparable to her sister. They were by Black Tie Affair (Noble Flaire X Tedwin In Tempo) and out of MXM infinity (Tug Hill Commando X Montbelle Black Rose (full sister to Montbelle Rosalie). This colt has just started to wear a surcingle and seems easy to work with. He’s a happy worker, as are all of the offspring by Sharper Image so far, and is a good sized boy. I took a few pics if anyone wants to see them (I do NOT profess to be a photographer:) …just standing in his owner’s backyard. I think this might be a pretty nice colt with wonderful breeding…and they only want $4500.00! Someone should snag this colt…I think someone is gonna get a deal! Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think might have interest in him. There is always lots of breeding talk, but this colt is standing on the ground with no risk of getting a baby or not, he is what he is and I think he’ll be stud quality. There’s no way you could breed this nice of a colt at all for this kind of money, let alone one with this blood! Someone should really snatch him up…I think the risk is relatively low.

looking for the perfect home:)

I have a Morgan gelding that is not very old (I think he’s 9 or 10 IIRC) that needs a home. He is well broke to ride and drive and is about as safe as you could ever want one to be. He is quality and kind and smart and a super easy horse to have around. He was a finished show horse and has shown quite a bit. He has some soundness issues that we have thoroughly investigated and gotten to the bottom of (this horse has only been with us a brief time, so we don’t have actual history, only what the vets have discovered). Full disclosure and his x-rays along with the vet’s findings will go with him to his new home. I doubt this guy will ever show again, but he is a great horse that we think someone should be enjoying. He is pleasant on trails, although he isn’t going to take hard trail riding…he’s for someone like me that enjoys walking on nice trails, not trotting and galloping on cliffs and rocks:) He would be a wonderful horse for the person that has grandkids that want to come out and walk around on a horse, etc. You could have him turned out and not working for days/weeks and then get on him or hook him and he seems to act as if no time has passed. He is truely kind and has lots of knowledge. Basically, he’s OK for light use only. I don’t want this horse getting passed around or being run into the ground more…he’s a good guy and deserves a good person to enjoy him. Should he go to someone and they find in the future they can’t keep him, we’ll be happy to help re-home him again to ensure that he’s in a good spot. He has no bad habits, hauls, clips, bathes, ties, etc perfectly. If we don;t find someone for him, we’ll make sure he’s cared for ourselves, but we think he’d enjoy a person and light use and he doesn’t have that here. Anyone with interest can contact me via e-mail:
