Local Morgan Community

Awhile ago I was reminiscing with a fellow Morgan owner about our Morgan experiences growing up. She grew up in Michigan and I grew up in Pennsylvania. Both of us remember having a slew of showing opportunities available to us within easy driving distance. Many of these local shows were smaller and it was not uncommon to haul in, stay for the day and haul back home that night. The area I’m in now (St Louis) has very little available along these lines, at least for Morgan owners. Any saddle-club type shows like this are more heavily attended by stock breed owners and Morgan owners face breed-prejudice.

Are there still pockets of thriving local Morgan community out there? Are the types of shows I remember falling by the wayside as a whole? What’s the local Morgan community like in your area?

MI still has several unrated, local shows. Theres MJMHAY classic (Morgan, ASB, COTB classes), MJMHA Fun Show, Great Lakes Classic, in Ludington, Kiwanis Crystal Show (maybe?). These are all unrated and offer Morgan classes and open breed classes. IMO, MI is lacking in large “A” rated MI shows. But thats another can of worms entirely.

Amen Carley! Alas, the Crystal show is no longer supported by the Kiwanis. There is a movement afoot to make that a rated show so we have other options to get qualified within the state.
