Weanling Gala

Hey all. I’m reporting in from the Jubilee Morgan Horse show this evening. I got in just in time to catch today’s evening session and the Weanling Gala. I look forward to this event every time I get a chance to watch it. And I gotta be honest, every time I walk away just a…

Who wants my money? (show attendance)

Show bathrooms- not cleaned by fairgrounds, neglected by show management. Results in filthy, often cold shower. ACTHA ride bathroom- cleaned daily, stocked with toiletries and airfresheners topped off with a sign saying “welcome competitors. We are glad you are here” This isn’t about bathrooms… They are just a barometer of the issue. Shows know how…

OKC barns

Last year there was talk of updating at the OKC fairgrounds. Meaning they were tearing down the dirt floor barns and putting up at least one more “superbarn”. Does anyone know if this project was completed? I’ve searched the fairgrounds website and the grand nationals website and couldn’t find much. Just need to know if…

Eden Farm Update

It’s been awhile since I had heard much about one of the darker chapters in recent Morgan history. Most of you will remember back in 2010 Beth Lynn Hoskins’ Eden Farm in East Aurora, NY was raided by the SPCA and numerous horses and cats (some dogs too I think) were seized. The fall-out over…

Melting Reins

So, I have a pair of those rubber-grip type reins. They’re a few years old and perhaps are just on their last legs. But they’re kinda melting. At first I thought this just might be a result of the heat, but I had a friend tell me a few days ago that fly spray can…

Academy Restrictions

Since I’ve known about Academy I’ve always assumed it was just for kids. Low and behold adults can show Academy as well. There are some restrictions that I know of, but I can’t find specifics. Does anyone know of there’s a website about Academy shows/classes? Is this a stand-alone thing or is it overseen by…

Present and Future Breeding

Do you believe that breeding to older bloodlined stallions now available through Frozen Semen after death or high in age is worth it ? What helps you choose a younger stallion of similar bloodines as compared to an older stud with like lines, but possibly closer “important” horses in the sire and dam lines. Also…

Senior Equines

In honor of both the Olympic Games and the recent highlighting of senior Morgans in TMH, it only seems appropriate to give an honorable mention to senior Olympic equine athletes. That’s exactly what they’ve done over at TheHorse.com (not necessarily because of the TMH feature, but it’s there nonetheless). The individuals they discuss may not…

New TMH Feature

This month The Morgan Horse magazine will be starting a new feature “The Family Tree”. The flagship article will discuss Funquest bred horses. I dabbled in breeding a few years ago and did a lot of pedigree research. The topic still interests me and I’m really excited for this series. Check out more information here.
