I stink like horse and it smells fabulous
But I’m still going to take a shower as soon as I’m done writing this.
In spite of the St Louis heat I managed to live a nearly perfect day today. Horses in the morning, horses in the evening, and the heat of the day in between in an air conditioned Starbucks with internet and coffee at my beck and call.
The highlight of my day was probably my first official Saddleseat lesson ever. What an education. I could literally hear the jigsaw pieces of hodge-podge instruction over the years clicking together in my brain. I now know why the SS lady I took lessons from when I was little (in a western saddle mind you) would always say “heals down and out.” And I also realize why my Hunter/Jumper instructor instructor in college said he’d never heard that before. It was a bit of an epiphany to realize that a SS saddle isn’t so hard to sit in if you don’t try to sit as if you’re in a huntseat saddle. Who knew?
I definitely don’t plan on giving up my hunter/western roots. But it was fun to try something new and I definitely hope to continue improving myself in this style of riding.
What discipline did you learn first? How did you like branching out to other disciplines at first?
