Favorite Shows

Well folks, it’s that time of year again.  I spent some time yesterday adding 2011 show information through June, I hope to get to the rest of the season soon.  In anticipation for the upcoming season I’m kicking off a new poll.  What are your favorite shows?  Do you prefer open, or breed-specific; local fun shows, or bigger competition?

Just a quick FYI…Kelly McFaul posted a couple hours ago on facebook that the Red River Classic show at Ardmore, OK was changing dates. Was planned for April 28 – May 1. Being pushed out a week to May 5-8.

I picked local, unrated shows, because if I do show my horse this year, that’s probably all we’ll do, but I probably like larger open shows best in general. I always liked showing in Classic Pleasure, since that was my horse’s specialty, but then also taking him in an open class against other breeds. It was always exciting to beat someone on a Friesian.

These days showing is nothing more than an excuse to get off the farm once in a while, so the little saddle club shows are ideal. If my horse was younger, I’d aim for at least one bigger, rated show during the season, but alas, some things are beyond my control.

As a spectator, I think New England is my favorite. It’s interesting to see the top show horses, but I like that there’s also carriage, dressage, and hunter/jumper. There’s more to see than just the “go around in circles” classes.

If you are looking to start a list, there are going to be a few that will be on there by default almost.. NE, GN, for instance… if you want a poll to show what else is out there… WNY… Bluegrass… Jubilee should be on the list… just a thought.

I am going to put in a shameless plug for the 2 shows that our UPHA Chapter 15 puts on.
The Children’s Benefit Horse Show (CSHS) is July 21-23
The Mid Atlantic Fall Finale(MAFF) is October 14-16
They are both held at the state of the art Dream Park located in Logan TownsipNJ -which is right across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. Visit
    http://www.dreamparknj.com
We offer Morgan, Saddlebred, Hackney and Friesan classes. Some open oppurtunity classes and a full academy division for children and adults.
As the new chapter chairman I would love to see some more Morgan entries.

Thanks for the info eva. I do believe I had Children’s Benefit on last year’s calendar (that’s my starting point for setting up for this year, just rolling the dates ahead). If you start seeing shows in the Events calendar for October 2011 and you don’t see your fall finale please email me a reminder! (admin@abovelevel.com)
