The focus of this blog is not to spread the word on Morgan rescues, but in light of the current discussion an organization that has recently come to my attention is the Unwanted Horse Coalition. Along with Forever Morgans and AC4H this could be a good resource for placing these horses. Also, UHC is sponsoring “Gelding Parties” (this just strikes me as funny). Sounds fun, right? I couldn’t find the information on their site, but AMHA had a blurb about it on their site a few days ago, click here for more information.

I know some men that could stand to go to a “Gelding Party” lol
But in all seriousness – great information. Thanks for the links!
They do have some info on their site, but it’s just the same press release that AMHA has: http://www.unwantedhorsecoalition.org/?id=5&s=4&story=84
The UHC doesn’t really deal with rescues or placing individual horses. They’re designed more as an educational resource. I’m glad they’re initiating this program, though. Unfortunately, I think the real problem is people who are intentionally breeding excess horses, not people who incidentally have a stallion that they’d be willing to geld. But this should at least help push some people who are on the fence about gelding their colt toward making the right choice.
A vet at the University of Missouri is launching one of these gelding parties next month.

I think the UHC is a good resource, but I really wish they had come up with a better name. Anyone who was ever an eight-year-old girl knows that there is no such thing as an unwanted horse.
