Featured Archive/New Category

I really like looking through some of the older posts on this site.  Partly because I haven’t been around from the beginning, so it’s educational for me.  And partly for inspiration for new things to talk about, or maybe topics that we could come back around to.  I found one a few days ago called “Anyone keep score of the judges?” (go read it, it’s quite interesting)

One of the ideas discussed is adding a new area to this site where users can post comments about judges.  So, I’ve added a category (I know they aren’t obvious when you’re adding a new post, but you can select categories in the right hand column, please categorize your posts) for Judge Evaluations.  PLEASE keep this category constructive!  If I see any comments go up in this category that are not constructive and educational, they will be removed.

I don’t necessarily have an issue with this category existing, although I really do believe that the place for these comments is on a comments sheet handed in to USEF. That said, I really think that allowing anyone to post anything that could have an effect, good or bad, on someone’s career, anonymously, is catering to the parts of human nature that are the least attractive. I think if you have something to say, and it is based on fact and you believe in it, you should be willing to sign your name. If you don’t have it in you to sign your name, then it’s probably best left unsaid. I don’t know if it is required here, but that’s my opinion, for what it’s worth:):)

    Amen Stacy.
Plus, what is one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. I have dear friends who wouldn’t walk across the street for judges I adore showing to.

If garbage gets posted I’ll whack it.

I agree that the USEF forms are where formal comments should be logged. But neither show committees nor exhibitors have access to those comments. If I remember correctly from convention, not even the judges themselves see those comments (correct me if I’m wrong on that). It’s simply a way for USEF to keep tabs on it’s registered judges.

If you read through the archived thread some things mentioned include preferences on attire and being strict on specific things. It could be helpful to know these kinds of things before showing under a judge. That’s one thing that could get posted here. My goal with this category is to have a resource available that could be helpful to show committees in selecting a judge, and to exhibitors to perhaps determine which shows they want to participate in, and more specifically how to prepare for showing under a specific judge.

I, for one, doubt anyone will have the guts to post anything at all. But, I still decided to add it in the chance that it could be helpful. If anyone has ideas of an alternate way to do this I’m open to suggestions. However, I can’t think of any that will guarantee only constructive contributions. The burden will be on me here to keep it useful. If it becomes a place for “the parts of human nature that are least attractive” then I’ll ditch it altogether.

That sounds fair enough:) I didn’t think you’d let it turn nasty, just thought I’d point out that if the names of the judges are being put in there, then the names of the posters should be as well.
