Morgan/Showing Publications

I’m just curious what you folks think of the various Morgan/Show publications out there. Of those I’m aware of, there are TMH, TMC, Saddle Horse Report, Show Ring Times. Saddle Horse Report looks to have a lot of good online content available. But you can’t just get an online subscription, and to be honest getting gray fingertips from flipping through newsprint isn’t all that appealing. I know, it’s a silly reason to not want to subscribe, but the fact remains, I feel like the printed version would be wasted on me, so is it still worth the subscription for the online content?

Are there any other good ones I’m missing?

My favorite thing about SHR online is their searchable show results. It’s great for when you’re wondering what an old favorite horse is up to now. Worth paying $80/year for? I don’t think so.

Personally, I don’t subscribe to any of them now. They’re fun to flip through if you pick up a free copy at a show, but no matter how talented your writers are, show write-ups are boring as all get out. The ads are always for the same barns and (yes, I’m going to say it) how many pictures of bay horses trotting do I really need to look at every month? Once you take out the show results/write-ups and ads, there’s not much left to those mags.

I’d be curious to know what TMH is like these days. I get the impression that they’ve moved away from just show coverage and are doing more general-interest Morgan articles. The idea of that appeals to me since my interest in showing has waned over the past few years, but I haven’t actually read the magazine since probably the late 90s…

I agree with Leslie. They are fun to flip through, but it just seems like it’s almost the same thing every month with some of them. I do enjoy TMH, though, as they print more than just the whole SHOW HORSE thing. Morgan’s are so versatile and it’s nice to see a publication delve into the many other things Morgans do.
