About: I’m the assistant instructor and trainer at Twin Elm Training, under Bobbie Jo Graham. We are located in Northville, MI and offer lessons, boarding, training and showing. We speciailize in mostly morgans, although our barn also includes arabs, saddlebreds and national show horses. We attend class “A” morgan shows, along with the MHSA shows and a random open show here and there. We also attend tournament shows throughout the winter months. Our lesson program offers hunt, western and saddleseat lessons from novice up to advanced riders on seasoned school and show horses. I’m having a hard time finding a western saddle to work horses in. I used to ride arabs and always used the billy royal classic training saddle which fit them pretty well. The problem is that I can’t afford to buy one new right now and cannot find one used ANYWHERE. What other brands do you recommend for morgans? It seems like the full QH trees sit right on their withers, so are the semi-QH bars the way to go?
PS…. if anyone has one they might like to sell… I’m looking for a 15 or 15.5 in. seat.

I have a hard to fit Morgan mare and found the Circle Y Flex tree to be a great fit. Sometimes Sackett Ridge saddlery carries used. Good luck.

I just saw a billy royal work rough out saddle on ebay. 15.5 wants 900 for it. No one has bid you might be able to neg. with them??
Yes, you will want a semi bar unless you have a big rounded filled out morgan. Even I have a 16.1 big full morgan mare and the semi bars are a great fit!
Good luck in you hunt!!

I have a 15 inch Billy Royal saddle that I would consider parting with. It is a great sturdy saddle and it fits my Morgan gelding great! Let me know if you’re interested. Also, send me your email and I will send you some photos.
