I just went out to the classified ads section of the AMHA site and did a search with the criteria of price from $100 to $2000 dollars and received approximately 30 hits. I just glanced at the ad's title and it looked like most were untrained youngsters, but there were some using horses out there as well.

There is also a "Horses Wanted" category. I would recommend that you submit an add describing what your dream horse would be and your price range and see if any sellers answer your ad.

Also, there are a couple of Morgan auctions taking place within the next few months. Cochran's, the Mid Atlantic Breeders Sale and the Buckeye Morgan Auction spring to mind.

I'm thinking that you may have more difficulty finding a boarding barn under $300 per month than finding a wonderful Morgan within your price range. In my area, NE Ohio, it seems that the boarding prices have all gone up and $300 seems to be the starting rate.

Good luck with your search!

The fact that you're willing to buy a yearling and put the time and effort into it will help you alot. They are out there...there are yearlings all the time that simply need a new home. Often theya re well bred and either the owner has come upon unexpected circumstances or something. If you look into larger farma and breeding programs they'll often be willing to sell some of the yearlings before they go to work...they won't be the best in the group of yearlings, but that doesn't mean theya ren't very nice and at that age there's really no telling. If they don't have something, they might know of someone who does. We usually have a client or 2 that has some colt they can't train or filly that got put on the backburner for no reason other than life got in the way. Good luck and I'll keep you in mind so let us know when you're ready and we'll see if we can point you in the right direction to get your dream MORGAN!:)

Though they don't often have younger horses, you might want to keep an eye on forevermorgans.org. They help rescue slaughter-bound Morgans, so you'd be doing a good thing and wouldn't have to pay show barn prices.

Never hurts to check Craigslist, either. Someone in my area was trying to unload a bunch of registered young Morgans for $200 recently.

Also keep in mind that a lot of listed prices are way higher than what the seller actually expects to get, so if you find the Morgan of your dreams, don't let the price stop you from at least inquiring.
