A friend we have lost……..

Today we lost a dear friend and Morgan lover, Kenton Wood.

I know alot of you know Kenton and his wife Katrina of Graywood Stables.

Those of you that do not probably remember their beloved mare UVM Columbine.

Kenton succumbed to cancer today, after many months of a ferocious battle he and his wife Katrina fought.  He is with the angels now, no longer in pain.  Remember him for the strong, loving, fun, generous and kind man he was.

Please post any wonderful memories you may have with them, later we can send them to Katrina.

How Did It Go?

My life is always busy and new things to do, but I do check up on here as much as I can. Recently I saw the thread about Tim O’ Gorman and the auction put on for him. I was wondering if anyone had the results of that auction? How did it go, did things sell, etc?

Especially how is Tim and his family doing? Granted maybe a little personal, but just thought I would ask as there was such an outpour of help; which I must admit makes me very happy to be in the Morgan beed.

Well that’s it. Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to hearing great news from everyone! Take care.

Black will be at Morgan Grand Nationals for anyone who wishes to see him or try him out! He will be located in Barn 3 at the Marlett Stables setup. We look forward to seeing you!

A fresh face in the Classic division!

This dynamic gelding will take any rider to the top with his commanding show ring presence. His bold “look at me” attitude makes him an exceptional amateur horse, and, with his phenomenal personality, “Black” would also make an outstanding junior exhibitor horse. This beautiful gelding was moved from the Hunter Pleasure division into the Classic Pleasure division for the 2009 show season and is making it known that this is where he not only belongs, but excels.

In his first year in the Classic Pleasure Saddle division, Black has racked up victories in Ladies Classic Pleasure Saddle, as well as Open Classic Pleasure Saddle, including a Reserve Champion victory in a competitive class at the North Star Morgan show. As well as a commanding saddle horse, Black is regularly driven at home and would be a prominent contender in the Classic Pleasure Driving division for amateurs and junior exhibitors alike. He also shows great promise for a future equitation horse.

Wins aside, Black is an extremely personable and affectionate horse who loves nothing more than interacting with people. It is his fun-loving, sweet, and friendly disposition that makes him a true winner. His ground manners are exemplary, his “in-your-pocket” personality makes him a joy to have in the barn, and his disciplined work ethic is a trait long sought after.

Whether you are looking for a saddle horse or a driving partner, Black is always ready to work and loves to show off. His pure enthusiasm and love for the show ring is a huge bonus, and, with a bright future ahead of him, this talented horse is only getting better with age. He improves with every show.

Come visit Black or hop on for a test ride in Oklahoma City at the Morgan Grand National horse show. You can find him at the Marlett Stables setup. We look forward to seeing you!!

Boot Reviews

I am in the market for a pair of new boots – tall boots, hunt boots – whatever they’re called. I think I want zip up the back field boots, but I’ve been told that the zipper isn’t a great feature (it’s great for my chunky calves though).

Anyway, I’ve been on Dover, Stateline, etc. and can’t make up my mind as to what I want. What boots do you wear or recommend? I like the Ariat brand, but am not exclusive to that…they’re just all I know at this point. Anyway, I can only afford under $300.00.

I’d love to hear what everyone’s suggestions and/or recommendations are.

Equitation

So, as a follow-up to some of the discussion on the equitation post, I’m curious what your thoughts are on the form to function? My aunt, who used to show Saddlebreds, made a comment to me about trainers being notorious for bad equitation. I don’t know how true that may or may not be, but I have seen trainers who just do not sit pretty in the saddle.

If having good equitation were the best functional way to ride a horse, you’d think those who do it all day every day would have it down pat. So what’s the correlation here? And if it’s NOT the “best” way to ride a horse, then why do we teach it and have performance evaluations on it?

NY Regional Results?

Does anyone know where the NY Regional show results are posted?

Elegant 1890 Essex Trap available in CA

I have an awesome antique carriage listed on eBay currently with an opening price of $4100 (no reserve) and plenty of pics available. This carriage was completely refurbished in MA in 2003 and won an award shortly after. It includes antique lamps and is set-up for single but could likely have a bar added and used for a pair if you want. Hasn’t been used since I bought it in 2005 but stored inside, there are some minor cosmetic areas to be touched up (detail/pics in eBay listing) but it is in great shape and would look fab w a curvy Morgan pulling it. Also a brand new/still in box custom made carriage harness for a 14.2-15.1 Morgan or similar body style.  The carriage is located at David Young’s farm in Auburn, CA. Please email if you have questions or want to go see it. Thanks!
