Hi, my daughter is outgrowing her eq outfit and I’m going to be looking for another. She is 5′10″ and wears a woman’s size 9 or so. I was wondering if anyone had any western outfits they were looking to sell?

While at OKC this year I had the opportunity to meet Debbie Beth-Halachmy and learn of her and her husband, Eitan’s off season activities. Many of you may already have heard of their Cowboy Dressage program at their training facility, Wolf Creek Ranch in Grass Valley, CA. For those of you who haven’t, Cowboy Dressage is a riding discipline that combines Traditional Western Riding and with Classical Horsemanship. It is quickly becoming popular with Western riders.

During our conversation, Debbie told me of a very prestigious invitation that Eitan received and accepted from Olympic Equestrian Coach, Conrad Schumacher. I emailed Debbie after I returned home to learn more about this honor and she replied with this information:

Eitan and Santa Fe were invited to be part of a clinic/symposium with famed horseman and Olympic coach Conrad Schumacher. This is quite an honor for us and we are greatly looking forward to it. The point of having Eitan and SF there is to show that dressage is for the western discipline as well..it makes a better horse. We were asked to bring a second horse and rider and Julie Adams of Futurity Farms will be joining Eitan on BEEF Ivan who Eitan trained and is Eitan’s open horse this year. Julie showed him at OKC in the World Western Class and did an excellent job. She will be showing him next year but he will remain in training here. Ivan is quite advanced in dressage and we think he will be a very good Cowboy Dressage Horse in the near future. He has lots of talent for sure. You can go to www.conradschumacher.com and read about the event.

I think it is great to see how Morgans and their trainers branch out, showing the great versatility of the breed as well as finding new avenues for them to excel. Congratulations to Eitan and Debbie on this honor and their continued success!

Anticipating

What are some training tips for a horse who anticipates in the show ring? We have an aging show horse who just will not walk (breaks into the trot and canter at the slightest noise). I feel as though this is somewhat common in some of the more seasoned show horses – is that true? Regardless, Contro is a gentleman at home and in the warm up ring, but the moment he hears the announcer, he becomes very naughty (he is an ex Saddleseat horse – converted to huntseat). I’m hoping someone may have some great ideas on this one.

Jenny :)

2006 Dark Bay Stallion. Stretchy, exotic and very pretty headed, we look forward to showing ‘Cody’ In-Hand in ‘08 if someone doesn’t scoop him up first. Maternal half brother to both GN Champion Century Mardi Gras and successful stallion Century Bon Jovi, we expect great things from this breeding quality Stallion, both in the show ring and the breeding shed. And, he has a bright disposition to boot! Owner paid $20,000 for him in August of ‘08 prior to the horse coming to me, and has since been in a car accident. The horse now belongs to me personally and needs to be sold IMMEDIATELY. ALL OFFERS CONSIDERED!!!  $5,000 obo!!!!!

Cowboy Dressage School of Horsemanship 2009

For those of you that may be interested, Wolf Creek Ranch in Grass Valley, CA will once again be offering their Cowboy Dressage School of Horsemanship from January-May of 2009.  During this 5 day course, a maximum of 3 horse and rider combinations are taught for 5 hours a day with the instruction focusing on refinement and lightness.  Students are allowed to bring their own horse or can they can ride one of the horses at Wolf Creek Ranch.

The Cowboy Dressage School of Horsemanship was started in 2008 and was met with great success.  People from all over participated, with 2 students coming all the way from the Netherlands.

This is what a few of last year’s students had to say about the program:

“It was a dream come true for my sister and me to work with Eitan in his Cowboy Dressage School of Horsemanship; although, our levels of ability made us uncomfortable working with such an awesome horseman. It didn’t take long to discover Eitan’s easy-going and understanding teaching style made us very comfortable and open to him. He clearly communicated his natural horsemanship philosophy of understanding, softness and lightness, which in turns leads to a trusting relationship with the horse. Over the five days, each of us was supported to incorporate this philosophy into problem-solving strategy.

My goal in attending was to help my horse overcome her fear of cantering. We succeeded! My sister’s goal in coming was to overcome her fear of riding the canter. In the end, Eitan had her cantering in the round pen with her hands in her back pockets. They succeeded!

Debbie’s hospitality and good food at lunch enhanced the whole experience. Her warmth and kindness, and Eitan’s sense of humor made us feel like family as we sat around the table, laughing and sharing stories. It was an experience we shall never forget and one I will be repeating in 2009.”
